Getting a Lift from an Article on Novel Writing

lucy_in_boothThrough the Las Vegas chapter of NaNoWriMo, I found a really great article interviewing writers about writing at the Wall Street Journal website. It was just what I needed right now. I’ve been feeling very discouraged about how difficult writing has been on this particular story I’ve chosen for NaNoWriMo. I know it’s not supposed to be easy, and it’s never been a walk in the park for me to write in the first place, but this seems so much more difficult that usual. Reading published, and very distinguished, writers’ experiences with birthing a story and finding their experiences, feelings, and methods so similar to my own lamentations right now helped me a lot. It made me feel like it’s not just me. It’s not just that I’m not meant to be a writer. In fact, it might just be a sign that I am doing exactly what I am supposed to be doing and this is just the way it is for all writers. It doesn’t make it any easier, but it gives me encouragement that I’m doing what I’m meant to do and it all will eventually work itself out.
